| Redwood Run |
|
Redwood Run This biker paradise is held on the second weekend of each June, at the Riverview Ranch in Piercy, California, about 200 miles north of the Golden Gate on Highway 101. It was once a dude ranch in the 1930’s operating until the freeway came through...remains of it can still be seen on campgrounds appropriately named “Chimney” and “Apple” flats.
f you are not familiar with it, the Redwood Run harkens back to days when bike runs were self-contained events. You rode your bike to it and set up camp with the stuff you carried on your bike. One of the last remaining real “Old School” biker parties; attendance is limited to approximately 5300... making it pretty much a private party on private property. Any and all behavior is tolerated as long as it doesn’t violate “community standards“. And since this is private property; helmet laws aren’t enforced and security is provided by the MMA offering the crowd more freedom than is accustomed at casino or fairground rallies.
The first Redwood Runs were overnight cookouts attended by about 150, now over 30 years later it has grown to more than 5,000 bikers coming from all over the U.S. and abroad. Many visitors kick off their summer vacations at the Redwood Run and stay on after to enjoy the north coast hospitality. Due north near Orick, you’ll find a large herd of Roosevelt elk and just a turn off the freeway gets you to some of the most beautiful Pacific coastline. There are so many beautiful rides that its impossible to do it all!
The Riverview Ranch offers 85 acres of scenic camping and hot showers. Campgrounds are on various flats with oak and redwood trees for shade, some have breath-taking views and the river has numerous swimming holes. There on a terraced mountainside where the Eel River bends is a natural amphitheatre; the river runs behind the stage and there is a cliff on the other side. In front of the stage is the infamous pit, where the party action is.
The Run officially opens at 9 a.m. Friday, June 12, unofficially it starts a day or two before at numerous bars and watering holes in a dozen or so towns all over northern California. Over the years the Run has grown into a 100 -mile- long party that starts where the freeways end in places like Hopland and Upper Lake or Willits. You won’t find hotels or restaurants at this event, unless you drive into Garberville, about 12 miles away. However, what you will find is a celebration of raw lifestyle and what is left of a true biker experience.
2010 Tickets will go on sale soon, so stay tuned and check back soon. For more information on the event, visit: www.redwoodrun.net

| Sturgis Motorcycle Rally |
|
Annual Sturgis Motorcycle RallyAre You Ready for the 71st Annual? Don’t count on the world slowing down and it taking a long time for August 2011 and the Rally to get here. It seems like yesterday that we were prepping for 2010 and here we are boxing it up, setting it on the shelf, and running full steam ahead into 2011. Before we know it we’ll be right smack dab in the middle of Main Street madness again and loving every minute of it!
Many of you begin planning your trip for “next year” soon after leaving us “this year”. The excitement is hard to shake and the new friends are hard to leave so deciding to come back and do it all over is a fairly easy choice. The magic of the Hills is mesmerizing and the roads, well; there are few places on this good earth that offer this kind of riding.
Incredible roads like Needles Highway, Iron Mountain Road, the Wildlife Loop and Spearfish Canyon take you to amazing destinations - Mount Rushmore National Memorial, Custer State Park, Crazy Horse Memorial, Bear Butte State Park, the Badlands and Devil’s Tower National Monument. Highway 14A’s big, wide turns transport you to the infamous town of Deadwood and the mining town of Lead, and the awe inspiring Highway 385 meanders past towns like Hill City, Silver City and Custer, all contained in the Black Hills National Forest. It’s breathtaking and it’s glorious and it will make you want to come back.
The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is the experience of a lifetime in a place where local people can still show you a thing or two about hospitality and visiting exhibitors can show you anything and everything you’d want or need to dress you up or dress up your bike. Or heck, just buy a new one while you are here! Harley-Davidson and Victory introduce their new models each year during the Rally and you can demo virtually every kind of bike on the market - custom, V-Twin or metric. It’s like being a kid again, in a candy store. Only better! Because in addition to the bikes there are concerts and races and bike shows, five blocks of Main Street bikes-only street vibe, the 8th Annual Mayor’s Ride, Michael Lichter’s annual exhibit, the 6th Annual World Championship of Custom Bike Building, free style stunters, the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame, organized rides, the Limpnickie Lot, some pretty impressive watering holes, custom legends, blue skies and warm, sunny days. It’s all waiting for you in Sturgis and the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota.
So add us to your website Favorites list and keep checking back. We promise to keep you posted on all the news as soon as we receive it. We’re one-stop shopping for all your Rally needs – places to stay, things to do, vendor space, photos, you name it, we’ve got information about it, and if you can’t find what you’re looking for here, email us at info@sturgismotorcyclerally.com or call us 605.720.0800 and we’ll help in any way we can to make your Sturgis experience memorable.
